"Colours of the Indus: Costume and Textiles of Pakistan" by Nasreen Askari and Rosemary Crill published in 1997 by Merrell Holberton Publishers in association with the Victoria & Albert Museum ISBN 1-85894-045-1 Published to coincide with the exhibition of the same name in commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of Pakistan. Pakistan's geographical position has made it a crucible in which influences from Europe, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Central Asia and China have fused with the indigenous traditions of South Asia. Buddhism, Hinduism, Zoroastrianism and Islam have also intermingled to add to the legacy of ritual pattern. The exhibition marked the first ever exposition of Pakistan's rich but little known costumes and textiles. Full of excellent quality colour photos. | |
"Costumes, Accessories and Carpets of Nomadic Tribes" published by Bunka Gakuen Costume Museum India, Pakistan, Afghanistan in 1997. Catalogue in Japanese of an exhibit of the same name of material culture from north-west India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. This was an interesting and well staged exhibition which I was privledge to visit with a Japanese (non-textile) researcher. Excellent photos. Maps give some indication of origin of costumes. |
