These photos were taken on a visit to Long Dong village in October 2000. The villagers, Side Comb Miao, provided a fine welcome for us with young girls greeting us with alcohol in gourds whilst the men played musical instruments. The children also lined up to welcome us and women showed off their babies in beautifully decorated baby carriers - both embroidery and batik. The women then demonstrated hemp and ramie preparation techniques - especially batik, indigo dyeing and embroidery before the men played and danced for us and then the women provided a textile market for us. We were made to feel very welcome in a village which had obviously seen few western visitors. See De Wo market.
