Singapore bibliography

Listed below are details of a few books (from my own collection) which feature the textiles of Singapore. Some books are solely devoted to a particular aspect of culture, including textiles, whilst others include a few pages of information within a wider study.

"Festive Expressions: Nonya Beadwork and Embroidery" by Eng-Lee Seoh Chee in the 'A Guide to the Collections' series published by National Museum of Singapore in 1989 ISBN 9971-917-30-0 Straits Chinese settlements of Peranakan communities in Malacca, Penang and Singapore plus some from Java and Sumatra. The beadwork is generally crafted by Nonya and made primarily for display at celebrations.
"The Straits Chinese: A Cultural History" by Khoo Joo Ee published by The Pepin Press in 1996 ISBN 90-5496-008-6 The book provides a detailed account of the development of Straits Chinese social and material culture. The text is illustrated with many historical photographs and a large setlection of plates of architecture, furniture, costumes, beadwork, textiels, embroidery, gold and silver jewellery, domestic objects and ceramics.

"The Asian Civilisations Museum A-Z Guide to its collections" published by the Asia Civilisations Museum in 2003 ISBN 981-4068-67-5. Text and photographs illustrating the collections of the Asian Civilisations Museum in Singapore.
"Shopping for Antiques & Collectibles: Singapore & Malaysia 2003/04" published by Monsoon Books in 2003 ISBN 981-04-8857-2
