Detail of a woven and embroidered
mosquito net border in the collection of Pamela Cross sourced out of
Lai Chau Province in northwest Vietnam and thought to be about 40 years
old when bought in 2003. It may well come from Lai Chau and be of Black
Thai (Tai Dam) origin. However, the embroidered and woven designs are
similar to a detail from a Tai Daeng mosquito net decoration, upper
Xam Nuea style, early 20th century shown on page 219 (fig 9.33) of Patricia
Cheesman's book (2004) 'Lao-Tai
Textiles: The Textiles of Xam Nuea and Muang Phuan'.
