This ragi hotang was originally in the collection of Ernestina br Hutagalung and remained in the family home after she died. It was given by her youngest daughter, Helena, to Vera Tobing in 2006. At that time it was thought to be more than 60 years old. It is the thinest of the three ragi hotang in the collection. The textile is in good condition. Unlike the other two ragi hotang it does not have any beading down the edges

Both Pamela and Maria are very grateful indeed for the encouragement and advice which they have received from Sandra Niessen, a leading expert on the Batak and their textiles. See an autobiography and Batak references for more information about Sandra and her publications.
