ss05 Jpeg 54K An old cloth, characterised by every panel being different except for these two “mirrors” – and the origin of the ‘Sandie Bug Man’
A very old textile, probably a sampler of designs for potential customers. There are five different sections on the cloth, except for these two mirror
designs. A whimsical animal motif, in this case another "Khosa Singh", and very different from the one above. The range of expression for the mythical "lion with an elephant's trunk" illustrates both the freedom and creativity which makes these cloths so charming and original. The "kop," or "frog (man)," a motif found all over southeast Asia, including Island southeast Asia, also pays a visit.

Looking closely at the figure on the left (and on top), is a "kop" with an odd parcel on its head. Since I had never seen a frogman with anything on its
head before, I decided to make it my logo. The object on its head must be a sandbag for halting flooding waters, and sand-bag-on-head sounds very close to/Sandie Bag/. The/SandieBagMan/ logo is on a number of photos in this collection. It signifies that the photo was used as a postcard for friends. I will not use it again in future postings.

Age: probably around 1950. Cotton, with cotton supplementary weft. The sappan wood has faded badly, and other segments have lost color as well; something that a commercial weaver would have been concerned about. Probably Lao.
