Section of an old Pha Biang, possibly T'ai Lue. This textile illustrates the power and importance of geometric forms to the T'ai, along with the
integration of symbolic animals. The two mythic creatures here are the "naak" (water serpent, dragon, snake) and "Khosa Singh" (no ambiguity here - a lion with the trunk of an elephant). The "Khosa Singh" may be pregnant, symbolizing regeneration.
Age: due to the complexity of the supplementary weaving, probably pre-1960 cotton: with cotton supplementary weft; dyes: natural indigo, red and yellow may not be natural dyes
