ss02 Jpeg 55K Tai Daeng - silk – zone dying. Pha biang
T'ai Daeng Pha biang; this textile illustrates the technique of zone dying: the weft threads vary in color bands, adding further complexity to a
densely woven piece.
Age: indeterminate, but probably post-1950. Motifs: integrated "naak" patterns; the play of dark and light threads illustrates the Buddhist principles of impermanence and illusion, lending weight to the argument that the cloth has some age. silk: silk supplementary weft, probably natural dyes
