Shitou village(Shitou (meaning 'stone') village is a Bouyei village in Huanggousu township, Zhen Nin county, Guizhou province)These photos were taken at Shitou, or Stone village which was one of the first minority villages opened to tourists. It is near the significant tourist attraction of the Huanggousu Falls which attracts huge numbers of Chinese tourists although the Bouyei village is probably of more interest to foreigners. The village has beautifully constructed stone houses and is situated by a large stream running through the valley with mountains in the distance. At the village there is a stone bridge over the stream. We were fortunate to reach the village quite early in the morning whilst it was relatively peaceful and we were therefore able to enjoy the beauty of its situation. Old women were dressed in traditional dress and organised to sell textiles to the tourists. They were fairly tough but not too aggressive. all text & images © Pamela A Cross
