Silk
supplementary weft end of a pha biang showing siho, mythological animals
half-lion, half-elephant, unique to the Lao culture, with spirit figures
on their backs walking amongst other figures including nak. Collected
in Chiang Rai in 1988 and probably from the first half of the 20th century.
This silk end is sewn to an indigo dyed cotton woven length and with strips
of silk applied covering a woven pattern.
