A Kachin Jingpho bag in the collection of Bill Hornaday. He describes
the main body of the bag as densely woven silk. The braided strap is cotton.
He believes that most of the dyes are vegetable, except for some very
faded methl violet. He is pretty confident that the reds are lac or madder
but that the pink accents are faded chemically died silk. Bill apologises
for the colour reproduction which is 'way off'. This was the bag 'a puzzling
bag' posted by Bill Hornaday on the www.tribatlextiles.info/community
forum which caught forum members' interest and led to the posting
of the photos of other similar bags which form the basis of this small
photogallery. Contact Bill
