I have news of the publication of David and Sue Richardson’s book, Qaraqalpaqs of the Aral Delta by Prestel Verlag, Munich, (ISBN: 978-3-7913-4738-7).
After many years of research their 480 page book on the Qaraqalpaqs has just been published by Prestel and is now available through many outlets including Amazon. It will not be available in the USA until July 25 as it is being shipped out there. This is the first major work on the Qaraqalpaqs in the English language. It is packed with 1000 illustrations, many shot on location and others from the archives of museums in Qaraqalpaqstan and Russia which have never been previously published.
The Richardsons have added a page about the book to their website - see
http://www.qaraqalpaq.com/book.html for more information including a list of contents and several sample pages - some lovely images!
For anyone able to be in Oxford on Wednesday 29 August the Richardsons will be speaking at the August meeting of the Oxford Asian Textile Group - see
http://www.oatg.org.uk/programme.htm and they have also written an article 'Livestock horn motifs in the textiles of the Central Asian Qaraqalpaqs' in the June 2012 (#52) edition of Asian Textiles, the magazine of OATG. (#52 is accessible to OATG members on line at
http://www.oatg.org.uk/magazines/AT52.html ).
Congratulations to David and Sue!
