Cheesman's books can be found (and a million others) at my favorite meta-search booksite:
, or at
Cheesman's is a classic - we consider it the "Bible" for our knowledge (and business) of NE Lao textiles.
I saw today on abebooks that they also are selling a copy of
Patterns on Textiles of the Ethnic Groups in Northeast of Vietnam by Diep Trung Binh. An unusual book to find for sale (outside of Hanoi, anyway) and a fascinating non-academic source of photos and info regarding Vietnamese minority hilltribe textiles.
I offer our recommended book list for anyone interested in hilltribe textiles of Lao and Vietnam (and most of the books can be found at the above bookstores):
12/15 update: Cheesman's book has just been reissued by by the University of Hawaii Press. I just heard from John Dalley (a great contact for books on Laos and SE Asia among other things) at
www.dalleybookservice.com that he has a new copy.
