MAC has quite been inspired by the posts on the use of bast fibres in the Philippines and found some interesting information on a bast fibre - maguey - which is native to Mexico and Central America where it is used to produce a fibre used mainly for bags and ropes. Maguey is a member of the Agavaceae family. Follow the link
https://www.clothroads.com/maguey-ancient-wonder-plant/ to find out some more information about it. Apparently MAC has maguey growing along the front of his land in Japan but does not use it for the fibre.
